Magazine Advert Analysis

All of these magazine adverts for albums have typical elements that is generally seen in most album advertisements.
For example, the date of release is posted at the bottom of the page, and this is a general quality in magazines.
Another similarity between these advertisements in particular, is that the band whose album they are advertising has their logo posted in the center of the page on a large scale, as people are familiar with this image and will associate this with the band in question.

Another typical element is that the bands name has been displayed in a larger font at the top of the page, immediately getting the message across. It also has the bands website across the bottom of the page in small print, that will contain further information.

To categorise genres when it comes to album advertisements, you usually see that when it comes to the rock genre, the advertisements generally don't contain an image of the band themselves.

9 Frame Analysis

The music video I have used is 'Pretending' by HIM. I chose this video because it has a different and interesting way of using camera angles to achieve a certain look, in this case, it gives the feeling of a rollercoaster ride.
The video is purely just performance, and doesn't have any storyline to it.
As you can see in each frame there are very different camera angles, including high angles, long shots, side angles, close ups etc. And the video itself can give a feeling of motion sickness!
The setting it's in is not relevant, in fact the video is not relevant to it's lyrics at all.
The mise en scene has no hidden meanings or relevance to the song either.
The whole video is mainly based around cinematography, and the interesting angles it uses.
